Response to the Labour Party Statutory Youth Service consultation
Leigh Middleton, Chief Executive, National Youth Agency (NYA):
“Investment in youth work is vital to support and develop the life skills and opportunities of young people. We welcome the Labour Party’s consultation and recognition of the need for quality youth services, enabling access to both open access services and targeted support through safe spaces and activities that young people need, want and value.
This requires significant investment in the youth workforce, professional skills and development that enables volunteer or part-time session workers and that validates apprenticeships and higher education routes to become a qualified youth worker.”
NYA is leading on the cross-party inquiry on the role and sufficiency of youth work (APPG Youth Affairs) reporting at the NYA Youth Work Summit (31 October) and has called for a national commitment to young people through a Youth Covenant, supporting young people in the present and ambitious for the future.
