Five organisations awarded for encouraging youth voice

Five organisations were today awarded the National Youth Agency’s Hear by Right at either Flagship or Active level.

Hear by Right assesses and recognises organisation’s commitment to youth participation and promoting youth voice. After attending an insight session with NYA, the organisations reflected on their practice and implemented a range of improvements to their internal processes and structures which are all aimed at improving youth participation throughout the organisation.

Upon reviewing those processes, NYA have decided to award the organisations with the below levels of Hear by Right, recognising their reflective practice and growth and overall dedication to making young people’s voices heard.

Groundwork UK – Flagship level

Leicester City Council, Social Care and Education – Flagship level

Medway Council, Youth Service – Flagship level

Barnardos – Active level

Brockington College – Active level

Katy Fielding, Assistant Director of Operations at the NYA said, “We are pleased that the first group of organisations going through Hear by Right since it was refreshed in 2018 showcased the breadth and depth of organisations that can go through the Hear by Right process. We have been pleased with the level of commitment and reflective practice we’ve seen throughout. As always, making steps towards changing an organisational culture to participation always comes with a variety of challenges, but these organisations were able to overcome these and make a true difference to young people through their hear by right work.”

The five organisations were recognised for their dedication to youth participation at the 2019 NYA Summit in October.
