The National Youth Agency (NYA) is proud to announce it has been awarded a £1,000 grant through the First Give programme, thanks to the inspiring efforts of Year 9 students at The Hinckley School.

First Give is a national initiative that empowers secondary school students to engage in social action by identifying key issues in their communities and supporting charities that address them. As part of the programme, students research, advocate for, and raise awareness of their chosen charities, culminating in a school-wide competition.

Early in 2025, students at The Hinckley School selected the NYA as their charity of choice, recognising the organisation’s commitment to empowering young people and amplifying youth voice. Their presentation and campaign were judged the most effective among their peers, securing the £1,000 grant for the NYA.

The students shared their motivation for choosing the NYA, saying:

“They support and nurture people just like us and we wanted to raise awareness and money for all of their great work.”

Jake Elvidge, the student’s teacher at The Hinckley School, added:

“I am so delighted by our students who went above and beyond to support an amazing charity. They have done the whole community proud, well done all.”

The funding will go directly towards supporting the National Youth Council to the UK (NYCUK)/Youth Voice function, helping to ensure that young people across the country have the opportunity to be heard and influence decisions that affect their lives.
