Ten determined runners are lacing up their trainers ahead of the TCS London Marathon this April, taking on the iconic 26.2‑mile challenge to spotlight the vital role of youth work.
Across the country, youth workers act as trusted adults who provide safe spaces and the support to help young people discover their strengths and develop the essential life skills to navigate the challenges they face. Youth workers provide young people with opportunities to learn about healthy relationships, engage with education and training, have a voice on the issues that matter to them and be inspired to pursue their ambitions.
By running in this year’s marathon the NYA team, of staff and supporters, are raising funds to develop and expand training initiatives for youth workers in how to use digital technology to engage young people and keep them safe online. The NYA is committed to helping youth workers support young people to navigate the digital world safely and utilise online spaces to make meaningful connections, use their voice and have fun.
”“Running a marathon is a huge commitment and our team is doing it to make sure young people everywhere have access to the support they deserve. Their determination mirrors the spirit of youth work by showing up, putting in the miles, and believing in the potential of every young person. Everyone at NYA is incredibly proud of what they’re doing.”

The opportunity has been made possible thanks to support from Tata Consultancy Services who are the title partners of the TCS London Marathon. Held on Sunday 26 April, it is the world’s largest annual one‑day fundraising event. By stepping onto this global stage, NYA’s runners hope to inspire more people to recognise the vital role youth workers play in enabling young people stay well and empowered to reach their potential.
