After listening to the sector these standards have had a refresh, including the addition of the Health, Safety and Welfare Standard. The Safeguarding Standards for the youth sector are designed to support good safeguarding practices for all those working with children and young people. This guidance document outlines best practice across the sector and provides a helpful framework to understand what good safeguarding looks like in different organisational contexts.
To complement the Safeguarding Standards, we have built a Self-Audit Tool, designed to help organisations reflect on and assess their current safeguarding practices.
This tool will help you identify where your organisation currently stands — whether you’re working towards compliance, building a safeguarding culture, or embedding a culture of safeguarding excellence (“Culture Plus”). At the end of the process, the tool will generate an action plan to help you move to the next stage or maintain Culture Plus.
This tool is for your internal use only. No data from the audit is collected or shared — it is a resource to support your own development and learning.
“This self-audit tool, built around the NYA Safeguarding Standards, supports learning, growth, and development — helping youth organisations strengthen their safeguarding practice at every level.” – Xyna Prasad, National Safeguarding and Risk Lead
