We are pleased that the Liberal Democrat party has made a policy commitment towards building back the youth sector. Their pledge to ensure long-term funding for the youth work infrastructure, support a workforce strategy and provide local authorities with the resources to fulfil their statutory duty are long-standing NYA calls.

Together with the promise of a dedicated Cabinet Minister for Children and Young People, the announcement of this new policy could not be more prescient, ahead of today’s publication our 2025 Census ‘snapshot’ report which highlights the escalating demand for youth services to address challenges around mental health, the risk of violence and crime, and readiness for employment.

The Lib Dem’s policy demonstrates their recognition that youth workers through their particular person-centred approach and voluntary relationship of trust with youth people, are uniquely placed to keep our young people safe, well and provide them with skills for life.

As we continue our dialogue with all parties this Conference season, we are relentless in our efforts to ensure that the Government recognises the urgency of sustainable investment to ensure that the youth sector can rise to the challenge of the National Youth Strategy.

We are delighted that Munira Wilson MP, spokesperson for Education, Children and Families, will join us at our reception at the LibDem Party Conference this evening. We look forward to hearing more about the Party’s long-term vision for youth work."
