As the national body for youth work, the NYA has a dual function. We are the professional, statutory and regulatory body (PSRB) responsible for qualifications, quality standards and safeguarding for youth work and services in England. In line with our charity mission and aims, we also champion youth work through research, advocacy, campaigns and programmes.

We work in partnership and believe in collaborative leadership, listening to youth workers and the youth work sector so that we can understand their needs and respond to the challenges they face. We are ambitious for youth work and for young people and integrate youth voice and influence across our work.

About the Role

As a Youth Voice and Influence Consultant, you’ll help NYA ensure young people have a genuine say in how programmes, services and resources are designed and delivered. You’ll provide insight and advice that shapes NYA’s decision-making, supports a more inclusive and responsive approach to the needs of young people and the wider sector, and helps embed meaningful youth involvement across everything we do.

You’ll support our internal teams to involve young people from the start, not just consult them at the end. You will help make clear what actually changed because of what young people said.

No two days are the same at NYA. We are creative, responsive and flexible, and work together to achieve our goals set out in the 10 Year Vision for Youth Work.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Co-design programmes and services: take part in workshops, focus groups and online sessions to shape what programmes include, how they run and what the experience feels like for young people.
  • Be a critical friend: share honest, youth-led feedback at key moments (planning, mid-point and evaluation) about what will or won’t work, and why.
  • Spot and tackle barriers: identify what makes it hard for young people to get involved (cost, travel, timing, language, access) and suggest practical solutions.
  • Keep engagement meaningful: help teams choose the right ways to involve young people and ensure sessions are genuinely inclusive and influence real decisions.
  • Track and share impact: help capture what young people said, what changed as a result, and feed this back to young people in clear “you said, we did” updates.
  • Review resources and communications: check that guides, tools and content are relevant, accessible and make sense to young people.
  • Represent NYA: join youth work forums and events to share what NYA is doing and bring sector insights back to the team.

Please note: As this role involves direct work with young people, the successful candidates will be subject to the appropriate DBS Check prior to starting.

Please refer to our Candidate Pack for more information on the role and requirements.

Why work with NYA?

  • NYA operates as a people-focused organisation, prioritising the wellbeing and needs of those who work with us.
  • NYA offers an exceptional flexible working approach which encourages our consultants to balance their commitments with their personal life.
  • A predominantly remote team, spread across England, fostering inclusivity and diverse talent. Despite geographical distances, NYA maintains a highly motivated and connected team through the optimisation of digital tools.
  • NYA is committed to supporting the continual personal and professional development of those who work with us and helping them achieve their ambitions.
  • We will provide a full induction and supported journey into the role.

How to Apply:

Please download our Candidate Pack to find out more about the role and requirements. Please note that this role is available to those aged between 16-25.

To apply, please complete the online application form on Dydd Sul 7th Mehefin 2026. Please apply as soon as possible as we may close applications early once we have a sufficient number of suitable applicants.

  • Provide a short personal statement explaining why you are a good fit for the Youth Voice & Influence Consultant role. You will have the option to submit a video link if you prefer.
