Young people vote Anti-Hate Crime and Discrimination Education as UK Youth Parliament’s priority campaign

Members of Youth Parliament (MYPs) from across the country came together at the UKYP Annual Conference to decide on a priority campaign for their term ahead. MYPs voted to make Anti-Hate Crime and Discrimination Education the priority campaign, and will now take this issue forward as part of their work representing young people, including debating it in the House of Commons.

Ahead of the conference, young people from the UK, not just MYPs, voted on the issues they wanted the 2025-26 UK Youth Parliament to focus on. Their votes helped shape the shortlist of topics debated at the conference, ensuring the final decision reflected the priorities and experiences of young people nationwide.

While deciding on a campaign priority was a key moment of the event, the Annual Conference also provided MYPs with opportunities to develop the skills and knowledge needed to make meaningful change in their communities and beyond.

Throughout the conference, MYPs took part in a programme of workshops and training sessions focused on effective campaigning, leadership and advocacy. Sessions covered topics including media safety, storytelling, wellbeing, campaign creation, restorative practice, communication skills and equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI).

Delegates also heard from TEDx Speaker and young person Savannah Hanson who challenged and inspired young people to think about their role as changemakers and the impact they can have in driving positive social change by delivering a talk on why being right is overrated and practical ways to stay connected, even when we disagree.

By combining democratic decision-making with practical skills development, the Annual Conference equipped Members of Youth Parliament with the tools, confidence and connections needed to campaign effectively on the issues that matter most to young people.

Ynglŷn â Senedd Ieuenctid y DU

Wedi'i sefydlu 25 mlynedd yn ôl, mae Senedd Ieuenctid y DU yn cynnwys mwy na 300 o bobl ifanc rhwng 11 a 18 oed, wedi'u hethol yn Aelodau Senedd Ieuenctid (MYPs) i gynrychioli barn eu cyfoedion. Mae'n darparu cyfleoedd i bobl ifanc sicrhau newid cymdeithasol trwy gynrychiolaeth ystyrlon ac ymgyrchu.

Mae pobl ifanc yn pleidleisio dros eu MYPs mewn etholiadau bob dwy flynedd, a gynhelir mewn dros 70% o etholaethau, ac yn aml mewn ysgolion.

Wedi'i ariannu drwy grant gan yr Adran Diwylliant, y Cyfryngau a Chwaraeon, mae Senedd Ieuenctid y DU yn dod â phobl ifanc i mewn i'r broses llunio polisïau a seneddol, gyda mynediad uniongyrchol at y rhai sy'n gwneud penderfyniadau.

Dewiswyd NYA i redeg Senedd Ieuenctid y DU hyd at 2024-5, ym mis Mai 2024, yn dilyn cau Cyngor Ieuenctid Prydain ym mis Mawrth 2024. Mae'n gweithio gyda'r partneriaid cyflawni, yr Unedau Gwaith Ieuenctid Rhanbarthol yn Lloegr, Senedd Ieuenctid yr Alban, Plant yng Nghymru, ac ymgynghorwyr yng Ngogledd Iwerddon i ddarparu'r strwythurau a'r gefnogaeth angenrheidiol i'r MYPs gyflawni eu dyletswyddau etholedig.

Mae Grŵp Llywio Ieuenctid yn goruchwylio ac yn cynghori ar Senedd Ieuenctid y DU.

Mae gweithgareddau allweddol Senedd Ieuenctid y DU yn cynnwys cymryd rhan mewn digwyddiadau bwrdd crwn rhanbarthol a chynnal pleidlais genedlaethol o safbwyntiau ieuenctid ledled y DU, Gwneud Eich Marc.

Mae'r MYPs hefyd yn ymgyrchu'n lleol, yn rhanbarthol ac yn genedlaethol drwy gydol y flwyddyn ac yn cyflwyno sesiynau gydag ysgolion ac yn y gymuned i ymgysylltu pobl ifanc â'r broses ddemocrataidd.

" Mae pobl ifanc eisoes wedi'u tangynrychioli mewn corff o gynrychiolwyr etholedig sy'n gwneud cynlluniau ar gyfer NI'N dyfodol. Felly, mae'r UKYP yn rhoi'r cyfle inni addysgu, trafod a dadlau pynciau o bwys i bobl ifanc ledled y DU. Mae hefyd wedi rhoi'r rhyddid i mi gynrychioli fy etholwyr ifanc yn y Senedd, gan arwyddo pwysigrwydd cynrychiolaeth a diogelu ein dyfodol."

Maniffesto UKYP 2024 – 2026

Mae Maniffesto Senedd Ieuenctid y DU ar gyfer tymor 2024-26, Llunio Ein Dyfodol, Heddiw Nid Yfory , yn gweithredu fel cyfeiriad ar gyfer sut mae Senedd Ieuenctid y DU eisiau llunio'r byd ac yn adlewyrchu gobeithion a phryderon cyffredin cenhedlaeth gyfan sy'n barod i gamu ymlaen ac ysgwyddo'r heriau sydd i ddod.

Datblygwyd y Maniffesto dros nifer o fisoedd o 295 o gyflwyniadau polisi cychwynnol a'i lunio yng Nghynhadledd Flynyddol UKYP (26 Hydref 2024) gan arwain at y galwad ralio hon, sy'n cynnwys 110 o bolisïau y cytunwyd arnynt, i bawb weithio gyda'i gilydd i adeiladu dyfodol sy'n adlewyrchu gwerthoedd cyfiawnder, tegwch a chyfle.

Bydd dau o'r meysydd polisi hynny'n dod yn ymgyrchoedd blaenoriaeth 2025 a bydd Senedd Ieuenctid y DU yn parhau i ddefnyddio'r 110 o bolisïau a gyhoeddwyd yn y Maniffesto i eiriol dros newid pellach.

Mae’r UKYP yn credu bod y materion a godwyd yn y Maniffesto – o bleidleisiau yn 16 oed, yr isafswm cyflog, trafnidiaeth gyhoeddus, addysg ac urddas mislif ymhlith llawer o rai eraill – yn cynrychioli barn pobl ifanc ledled y DU.

The UKYP have been campaigning for Votes at 16 for over 20 years, so the introduction of the Representation of the People Bill is monumental, and it will be a powerful moment for youth engagement in democracy if it is passed. Read more here for further information about the Votes at 16 Committee and their work.

" Rhaid i'r maniffesto hwn fod yn her ac yn wahoddiad. I bawb mewn swyddi pŵer, ein galwad ni yw i chi wrando, i weithredu, ac i wneud lleisiau pobl ifanc yn ganolog i'r penderfyniadau sy'n llunio ein byd. I'r holl bobl ifanc sydd wedi cyfrannu eu syniadau, eu hegni, a'u breuddwydion: dyma'ch cyfle chi. Gadewch i'r maniffesto hwn danio'r newid sydd ei angen arnom mor daer."

Cyswllt

Thank you for your interest in UK Youth Parliament (UKYP).

As local authorities have now completed their elections for this term (Ebrill 2026 to Mawrth 2027), opportunities to become a Member of Youth Parliament are no longer available at this time.

As UKYP elections and participation are organised locally, the National Youth Agency does not hold specific information on individual election timelines or processes. For the most accurate and up-to-date information, we would strongly encourage you to contact your local authority youth services team or Regional Youth Work Unit directly.

They will be best placed to:

  • Let you know whether elections have already taken place in your area
  • Advise on when the next elections are likely to run
  • Share other youth voice or participation opportunities currently available

Even if elections have already taken place, there are often other ways to get involved in youth participation locally, and your local team will be able to guide you on the options open to you. We hope this helps and encourages you to take the next step in getting involved.
